All programs are free and open to the public unless noted. Program participants should meet at the park office unless otherwise noted. The park office is located at 2910 Hobson Pike, Hermitage, TN 37076. For more information, call 615-885-2422.

Friends of Long Hunter Monthly Meeting

Saturday, February 2 at 10:00am

PLEASE NOTE: We are meeting at the Shooting Range near Long Hunter State Park due to construction of the current meeting room. Please see the temporary address.

Join the Friends of Long Hunter State Park group as they discuss park activities and plan for the future. This is your chance to become involved, make new friends, and be a part of all the exciting things happening at the park! The meetings are open to everyone. Meet inside the park office meeting room.

Weather or Not

What will the groundhog predict today? We’ll take a one-mile hike around the Deer Trail and discuss nature weather forecasting from the groundhog and woolly bears, then take a look at the predictions from The Old Farmer's Almanac. Which ones are true and which ones do you think are folklore?

Birding Breakfast

Sunday, February 10 at 9:00am

Join Ranger Rawlings for breakfast at the Couchville Lake picnic shelter where we will fuel up for a birding expedition around portions of the lakeshore and picnic area. The past few weeks have seen wintering waterfowl, shorebirds, eagles, cranes and pelicans around the lake. Who knows what surprises await us today. Spotting scope provided, but bring your binoculars. Pets are not permitted in the Couchville Lake area.

Poetry Walk

Tomorrow is Valentine’s Day, so bring your love out for a winter walk and poetry. Have a favorite nature poem or written one yourself? Bring it to share as we hike around the Inland Trail. Join Ranger Rawlings for this one-mile hike where we’ll stop along the way and enjoy some poetry while surrounded by the natural world.

Jones Mill Trail Extension Workday

Saturday, February 16 at 8:00am

Join Friends of Long Hunter State Park Mt Bike expansion leaders and Friends members, Anita Fischer and Colin Davison for our next trail workday!

Our next trail workday is February 16th. We'll meet at a Different, closer to the work location - look for Friends signs at 4300 Campbell Rd, Mt Juliet TN at 8 a.m.. Plan on a morning of exercise, fresh air, camaraderie and fun until 12 noon. Wear layers of clothing and sturdy shoes, and don't forget to bring snacks and water. Tools and gloves will be provided.

Winter Waterfowl ID

We’ll provide a spotting scope, but bring your binoculars for a look at what birds have made Couchville Lake their winter home. Ranger Rawlings will be wandering the lakeshore, fishing pier and picnic area with a spotting scope to get a closer look at our winter visiting birds. Nature Tots: Sowing Seeds

Monday, February 18 at 10:00am

Join Ranger Blackwell as we introduce young naturalists to various seeds of the forest. This class is focused at kids ages 2 - 5. Second in a series of programs geared toward children of preschool ages. All children must be accompanied by an adult/guardian at all times.


The class will be an indoor activity and will feature our current Reading Ranger storybook "Miss Maple's Seeds". The children will be planting seeds of their own to take home. The cost of the program is $5 per child participant.
