The purpose of Friends of Long Hunter State Park is to help protect and improve the park environment for those who use it; and to support the park staff in its preservation and educational efforts.
We encourage you to join us in our efforts to assist Long Hunter State Park by becoming a member of our organization.
We offer many events throughout the year. We also have a Full Event Calendar. The following is a short list of upcoming events:
Story Trail Volunteer Day
Saturday, March 25 at 10:00am
We are almost complete with our improvements to the Reading Rangers Story Trail. We have 200 feet of the gravel base to place and about 1/4 mile of mulch. The Park will provide water and tools but bring your own gloves and snacks if you like. Once this project is done the trail will be more stroller friendly for families partaking of the Story Trail.
Long Hunter Spring Hiking Tour: Couchville Lake Trail
Sunday, March 26 at 1:00pm
Two-mile hike. Meet in Area 2 near boat house. No pets permitted. Come enjoy the many trails of Long Hunter State Park in our two-month day hike series. We will enjoy short hikes and long hikes while enjoying nature and discussing the natural features of the park. Each hike starts promptly at 1 p.m.
Location: Couchville Lake Trail
Introduction to Camping
Saturday, April 1 - All Day
With the expertise of State Park employees you will be guided in the proper way to choose a campsite, pitch your tent, build your campfire, and relax on an adventure. We understand learning to camp, especially when camping alone, can become a daunting task to even think about. That is why Tennessee State Parks hosts Camp O.U.T! events, so that you and your friends and family may enjoy the outdoors and experience an adventure under the guidance of Rangers and experienced outdoor enthusiasts.
Long Hunter State Park has hosted Camp O.U.T! (Outdoors, Unplugged, Together!) for two years in a row, and we are excited to introduce you to the treasures this park holds. Additional program options include fire building, water filtration, outdoor safety, birds of prey and more!
This trip is designed for families and beginner campers, but everyone is welcome to join. Included in the $35 per person registration fee is everything you need to enjoy the evening including dinner on Saturday, breakfast and lunch on Sunday, snacks throughout, campsite reservation and gear rental. Camping gear is available to participants on a first come, first served basis and you are welcome to bring your own gear.
We thank you for choosing Tennessee State Parks as your camping destination and look forward to getting to introduce you to the outdoors through this event.
This camping workshop is open to ages 3 and up, 18 and under must be accompanied by an adult and please no pets.
The registration and payment deadline for this workshop is 03/27/2017 and refunds will be provided for cancellations up to 03/28/2017. Payment can not be accepted the day of the event.
