The purpose of Friends of Long Hunter State Park is to help protect and improve the park environment for those who use it; and to support the park staff in its preservation and educational efforts.
We encourage you to join us in our efforts to assist Long Hunter State Park by becoming a member of our organization.
We offer many events throughout the year. We also have a Full Event Calendar. The following is a short list of upcoming events:
TN Promise Saturday at Sellars Farm
Saturday, June 23 at 7:00am
Although there are other mounds, this mound is the most observable mound on the grounds, and thus is a major priority to keep it manicured for all park visitors to enjoy. Hand loppers, gloves, and other necessary items will be provided as we spend our efforts ridding the mound of privet, honeysuckle, and other unwanted plant growth. We will also be clearing brush in the adjacent bastion and palisade area.
Meet in the site parking lot with proper work clothes and boots (NO flip flops or open toed shoes will be allowed). Work will begin at 7:00 AM and we will finish at approximately 11:00 AM.
Address for Sellars Farm is: Poplar Hill Road Watertown, TN 37184, from I-40 take exit 239-A and merge onto US-70E/Sparta Pike, then turn left onto Poplar Hill Road. Note: There is no numeric address; you will clearly see the brown signs for the Sellars Farm entrance 0.4 miles down Poplar Hill Road on the left.

New: Reading Ranger Story Trail
Saturday, June 23 at 11:00am
Come read, exercise and explore with us!
In partnership with the Governor's Books from Birth Foundation and La Vergne Public Library, Long Hunter State Park proudly introduces the third edition of this innovative program that combines the fun of outdoor exercise and a children's book.
The public is invited for the unveiling and fun hands-on activities on Saturday, June 23rd from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the Couchville Lake area of the park. This is a free event, held rain or shine. No RSVP is necessary.
This year's book is Miss Maple's Seeds, written and illustrated by Eliza Wheeler. It's the story of a tiny woman who fosters lost seeds and teaches them their value of being a seed. The story introduces young minds to ideas about seeds and their journey to become a plant as they walk along a beautiful quarter-mile trail. Children can enjoy the engaging artwork as each sign reveals the story.
Located beside the Couchville Lake parking lot, the Reading Ranger Story Trail will be accessible every day during regular park hours - 7 a.m. until sunset - through Spring 2019. The trail is an easy 1/4-mile wooded path.
On opening day, the trail dedication and ribbon cutting will commence at 11 a.m. Ongoing activities from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. include games, various booths, self-guided tours of the trail, and registering children with "Books from Birth" with Imagination Library representatives.
Directions to the Reading Ranger Story Trail: Enter Long Hunter State Park at the main entrance (2910 Hobson Pike, Hermitage, TN 37076) and then take the first left and proceed to the parking lot beside Couchville Lake. The Reading Ranger Story Trail (aka Nature Loop Trail) is located at the backside of the parking lot.
